Just inquired at my local dealership about getting the AMS heat exchanger. Was quoted $917 for the part itself (found it cheaper online from another dealership website but they said they’re unable to price match so I’ll just order from them) and 6 hours for labor at roughly $1280. Just wondering if anyone else in here went the dealership route for this and if so what they paid/how many hours it took your dealership.

EDIT: Decided to call 2 other dealerships near me to see if pricing was any better.
  • First one a little over an hour away quoted me the same $917 for the part but 5.5 hours of labor at $170 an hour so roughly $250 cheaper in labor.
  • Second dealership about 2 hours away didn’t even know what the part was and the service person I spoke with said they won’t install it for me as they don’t deal with “aftermarket racing parts”. I tried explaining the partnership with AMS and that it’s an official Infiniti part on their website but they didn’t wanna hear it. Also was told any modifications like this will void my warranty and I should contact consumer affairs. WTF!! 😂

When I had my dealer install the "Infiniti"-branded AMS HE that I provided, they took 4.5 hrs @ $160/hr labor rate, or $720, which was back in 2018.

I went this route just to avoid possible warranty headaches in the future. I paid around $640 for the HX at another dealership, and I paid the local dealer ~$500 for installation. I could have installed it myself, or paid a small shop half the labor costs, but again, I didn’t want to possibly deal with any possible problems.

Service told me hourly rate at my dealership is $200 an hour so maybe just inflation over the years but 6 hours seemed a little long to me

That’s exactly why I want to get it done at the dealership as well!! That way if anything goes wrong or any warranty issues down the road I can say “hey you guys installed it”.
Cheapest I can find the Infiniti branded one is $750 from another dealership’s website currently.
$500 for installation seems SUPER Reasonable to me ****. Do you recall how long it took them? And when did you have it installed?

I think they quoted around 4-5 hours. I got mine from Orland Park Infiniti in Nov 2021.

Well, for comparison, some luxury dealerships in SoCal are now charging $300+/hr for a labor rate.

Ah ok so roughly $100-$125 an hour in labor. That seems very fair to me. Jeez guess my dealership charges so much more so they can pay for that fancy coffee in the waiting room 😂

Feel like everything in socal is “luxury” pricing haha. I guess I should consider myself lucky my local prices aren’t that crazy here. They just remodeled my dealership a few years ago to have a more luxurious aesthetic, new waiting area, coffe setup, showroom, drive thru bays… guess they gotta pay for all that somehow. Maybe I’ll ask if I bring my own coffee and fold out chair if they can bump that rate down a bit for me 🤔😂

Just did one for a customer. 4 to 5 hours is the rate in the book. Looking to do mine next but trying to figure out a way where everyone wins and I pay less. Mission freaking impossible.
4 hours would be way better as it’d save me roughly $400. Do you work at an Infiniti dealer? Bribe the guys with pizza and beer after and maybe you’ll pay a little less!! Works for me in most other scenarios haha

yeah in sales. I usally take care of the guys out back. Just trying to figure out how we all can work it out as a team so that everyone eats but also by the book as much. I let them do my down pipes thru a ticket. Everyone was happy.

Oh nice!! I’m sure you’ll be able to get something figured out then. I’m surprised they did DP for you, I’ve heard some dealerships won’t get into that

Wow, and you wonder why Infiniti has spotty customer service!

I'm glad my service department has great SA's. They have been consistent through-out my 6-yr ownership.

In fact, when I had my Infiniti HE installed at the dealership, the Shop Foreman was the one tasked with the job. Other than slightly overfilling the reservoir, which pushed some coolant out the bottle when hot, I had no issues with the installation, and that was over 4 years ago!

It Amazes me that they vary this differently from dealership to dealership!! To the extreme that one only a couple hours away won’t even install an Infiniti part. Wild to me.

Sounds like you lucked out with living by a great one. Honestly I’ve never had to go to a different dealership other than my local one luckily. This is my 4th infiniti over the course of 12 years and they’ve been pretty decent with me. My original Dealership was Incredible!! I knew most people by name and they really went the extra mile for you. It was taken over by a larger local dealer about 5/6 years ago, lot of new faces and customer service dropped a tad but overall they’re still pretty good.

Do you live in Socal?
Nope, Western NY. Good thing I don’t from what Iridium was saying labor would probably cost me 2K
