LSD on a RWD Q60s revisited.

Ok, it’s now 2022 and instead of making the Q60 better, Infiniti decided to delete it. I was hoping to see a model with LSD as an option for the RWD model. I own a 2017 Q60s and am disappointed with it being an open diff. I could see not having LSD on lower HP versions but not on a 400 HP model.

I sold my 350z track for this car not realizing it didn’t have LSD. Big mistake, I hate the fact trying to get onto highway entrances I spin the tire. ( tire is singular 🤨). Connecticut has very short entrance ramps, some with stop signs.

So here is my question. Does anyone know if the LSD in the new Z would be a compatible swap? I’ve seen aftermarket swaps but would like to stay OEM if possible. Has anyone attempted this and if so how did it work out?

I would guess it's still too new a part to have been swapped. I could be wrong but haven't seen anything. I totally get where you are coming from. I had the factory LSD in my G37S. I couldn't believe the Q60RS400 didn't come from the factory with an LSD. So much so, I didn't even think to ask or look it up. Especially with it being 70 HP more than the G. Nissan has become some cheap ass bastages. I can honestly say on something like an LSD, I'm not sure there is any advantage to it being OEM. I'd even argue that this may be one of those parts that the aftermarket can sometimes do a better job with. I went with a Wavetrac and have been completely satisfied with the results. I know IridiumRS400 went with a Quaife. I'm pretty sure he tracks his from time to time. I think Z1 and ConceptZ both have some other options as well.

I'm happy with the Quaife LSD.

Compared to driving with the stock rear "open" diff, I had to adjust my corner entry speeds, as the rear LSD introduces power-on understeer, but if you're smooth with the throttle, you make up for it at better corner exit behavior. Rear LSD also helps get all the power down from a dig. Three-wheel launches are fun, especially on wet roads, where my Q remains quite sure-footed with the Michelin PS4s.

As for ordering & installation, I ordered the Quaife from CZP in AZ, and with the help of my neighbor and QuickJacks, I removed and installed the rear diff ourselves. I had my race shop in AR Motorsports in Tigard, OR, install & shim the Quaife LSD into the differential case.

So you popped the center section out and took it to a shop for the technical bits?

I un-bolted the rear diff from the rear subframe, and with a transmission jack supporting it, and I lowered it until I could slip the inboard half-shaft ends out. I took the differential case with the Quaife LSD carrier assy to a speed shop, where they disassembled the differential case, and removed the open carrier assy. The Quaife LSD carrier assy was installed with the necessary shimming.

Besides the new Quaife LSD carrier assy, I also bought the differential bearing & seal rebuild kit from Z1 Motorsports.

Z1 just finished my built diff with a Wavetrac LSD and 3.133 FD gearing. I'm in a 2017 Q60 Silver Sport. I'll be following this process and dropping my oem diff on Sunday and driving it down to Carrolton, GA on Monday. Hope to install on Wednesday.
